A long-time writer and editor, Jim Gorant has held staff positions at Sports IllustratedGQ, Men’s Journal and Popular Mechanics, among others. His writing has appeared in more than three dozen national magazines ranging from Outside, Men’s Health, and Popular Science, to Worth, the Robb Report, and the Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Magazine

His original SI cover story on the dogs of Bad Newz kennels won the Humane Society’s Genesis Award for magazine writing, and the book that followed, The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick’s Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption, became a New York Times bestseller. It was a finalist for the Virginia Library Association Literary Award, runner-up for the American Society of Journalists and Authors Non-Fiction Book of the Year and a finalist for the Goodreads Non-Fiction Book of the Year. He is also the recipient of the John Southam Award and of multiple writing awards from a variety of writing organizations.
